The Crayon Story.
January 2008 marked the beginning of a creative surge for Garner. In between playing 80 dates throughout Southern Ontario and across the country, getting our music on TV, college and commercial radio we couldn't get rid of our addiction to pushing forward, brainstorming, and writing. So after 10 months of writing, revising, starting over, and than revising again we are proud to introduce our upcoming release, Purple.
So what can kind of sounds can you expect? Lately the band has been listening to some great new artists and some classic old ones: Alicia Keys, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Hey Ocean, Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles. The thing that links all of these artists, our fans, and us is... the groove. So expect groove, expect us touching on all sorts of music styles, and expect it all to sound like Garner.
Why purple? Simply, the band thinks that purple is the funkiest colour that has ever graced a painter's palette. Why a Crayon? Ahh, there is the head scratcher. Touring Eastern Canada in June of 2008 involved playing, driving (you'd think some sleep, but alas...) and more driving. So we talked and brainstormed about what our next release could look like. One of us thought it would be interesting to release a series of albums, each similar in appearance, but all adorned with their own colour scheme. Each colour would correspond with the feel of the music on the album. The colour idea was taken a step further with the suggestion of using crayons on the album covers. A series of Crayon albums was even mentioned, but lets not get ahead of ourselves!
Funky, groovin', whatever that means to you, ladies and gentlemen, Purple is on the way.
